Hi, I’m Steven Herod — modeller, technologist, and the one-man band behind Hobbyshow. I’m based in Sydney, Australia, and I’ve spent more than 25 years building software and leading technology teams.

But when the laptop closes, you’ll often find me at the modelling bench. Scale modelling has been my hobby for years, and like many modellers I didn’t just build — I got involved. Through the Illawarra Plastic Modellers Association and the NSW Scale Model Show, I’ve seen first-hand what it takes to run a competition: the mountain of paper entry forms, the hand-tallied judging sheets, the late night before results go out. The models are the joy. The admin is the nightmare.

So I did what a career technologist does — I built the tool I wished existed. Hobbyshow has been running real shows since 2021. Entrants register online, organisers see everything in one place, judges work through hundreds of entries efficiently, and results are published to email and the web — photos, stats and all.
